Encounter

2

All along,

I’ve been like a drifting cloud,

wandering with the wind,

on windy days,

I’ve long been accustomed to the wind’s warmth,

and its unbridled freedom.

Crossing mountains and rivers,

flying over unfamiliar cities,

I’ve never changed direction for myself.

But one day,

the wind said: I’m tired,

I don’t want to accompany you on your wanderings anymore.

I was speechless,

looking back suddenly,

I realized how truly exhausted I was!

What was all this hardship for?

Having lived so many days,

I’ve lived for others,

The wind tells me to go, and I go; the wind tells me to stop, and I stay.

3

In the end,

besides wasting time,

I had nothing left for myself,

nothing I wanted
to cherish,

and nothing worth remembering.

A faint ache lingered in my heart,

but ultimately, I hardened my heart and

left the wind at the seaside.

I didn’t want to, nor was I willing,

linger above the seaside.

I didn’t want to see the wind,

and even less did I want to hear its sound.

I didn’t want to further wound

my slightly aching heart.

Silently, I gathered my belongings,

and wandered aimlessly, without direction or purpose.

And my departure

did not take away the wind’s world,

nor did it leave the wind any sorrow.

4

In the darkness,

we parted, we met,

we met,

it wasn’t in a dream,

not because when I saw you,

I felt a sense of familiarity,

because you were in my eyes,

your words from the past,

your beautiful face,

all unfolded before me,

yet I’m only captivated by this feeling,

no matter what you look like,

please, please meet me again, again.

It’s alright,

although we didn’t agree on a time to meet,

the weather is beautiful here,

I’m waiting for you.

Meeting is the most beautiful scenery between two people,

the still lake surface,

no one says: meeting means being together,

but I will definitely try my best!

5

Being together doesn’t necessarily mean being together;

being apart doesn’t necessarily mean not being together;

some people are physically together, but their hearts are separated;

some people are in different places, but their hearts are together;

Therefore, meeting is hard to define;

facing each other doesn’t always mean meeting.

You said,

the clouds in the sky are knots in the heart,

every time you meet someone you love,

a knot is added to your heart,

the once blue sky,

is now filled with clouds.

I said,

I won’t be that knot,

we meet, but we won’t fall in love,

we know each other, and our sky will be cloudless.

6

In the stillness, I encountered the wind,

and said,

“Wind, please take me away!”

The wind said,

“Your roots are here,

You’re not suited to follow me.”

The wind blew past…

When I wanted to sleep,

the wind whispered in my ear again,

“Sleep, you will meet the one you are meant to be!”

The leaf feared winter,

The cold of winter made her tremble,

But winter always comes,

What she feared finally arrived,

The leaf withered,

Falling into the lake and sinking,

Everything seemed like a dream…

7

Even without any prior arrangement,

I still believe we will meet again.

I’m waiting for you!

A meeting is a beautiful scene for two people,

like a tranquil lake.

No one says: meeting means being together,

but I still want to tell you

—please remember, our encounter!
